How did the US FDA vote on Covid-19 booster shots?
The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently voted on the use of a 3rd shot, as a booster, of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine.
The decision from that meeting has been used, by some, to say that the COVID-19 Vaccine is dangerous.
Their use of just one of the decisions, there were TWO decisions made, shows how genuine information can be badly misused by some who want a particular answer.
Unfortunately, headlines can be manipulated, and by using one of the FDA “decisions”, but in a misleading way, can end up with the wrong information being accepted as fact, by those who only read the headlines.
What was the FDA Booster Shot decision?
It was 18 to zero in favour of using the 3rd booster shot for anyone 65 and over, or at high risk of severe Covid-19. People at high-risk of exposure at work, such as health care workers and teachers, will likely also be eligible for a booster dose.
Why did some groups use the FDA decision to say it was dangerous?
They used the other vote result, instead of the above one.
The FDA voted 18-0 in favour of USING the booster shot, for those who would need it.
The FDA also voted 16-2 to REJECT the use of a booster shot for the entire population, citing a lack of safety data on extra doses and raising doubts about the value of mass boosters.
It is well known that the elderly and other health risk people are more at risk of Covid-19 issues, even after 2 doses.
Most of the younger people, aged 16 upwards, have lower issues from Covid-19, especially after the normal two doses.
Logically, the booster shot should be reserved for those who might need it.
The FDA chose exactly that.
Unfortunately, some people are saying that the FDA overwhelmingly voted 16-2 against booster vaccines rollout because it was deemed dangerous.
Even more unfortunate is that some people only read the headline, and not the full story, or do their own research to find the full facts.
The FDA deemed it worthwhile to use a booster shot for those who need it, by a unanimous decision. They did NOT say it was dangerous, they did effectively say it was not needed by those groups who would not medically need it.
