Australian Citizenship Residency Requirement.

How long do you have to be in Australia for Citizenship?

At the time you apply for citizenship you must have been living in Australia on a valid visa for the past 4 years. This includes all permanent and temporary visas and all classes of bridging visas.

You must also have been an Australian Permanent Resident resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen for the past 12 months.

You must also have been away from Australia for no more than 12 months in total in the past 4 years, including no more than 90 days in total in the past 12 months.

Any period inside Australia, while you do not have a valid visa, ie: as an unlawful citizen, will reset your start time.
