Immigration Visa Allocations in 2022-23 Budget

Australian Visa Numbers planned for 2022-23.

In the October 2022 revision of the 2022-23 Australian Budget the revised planned visa grant numbers for the next financial year July 2022 to June 2023 was released.

The 2022-23 Migration Program will have a planning level of 195,000 visa places. The Program has the following composition:

  • 142,400 Skilled visa places.
  • 52,500 Family visa places, of which it is estimated that 40,500 will be Partner visas (this is an estimate and is not subject to a ceiling). The remainder will be Parent and/or Child Visas.
  • 100 Special Eligibility visa places.

This is an extra 35,000 places compared to the May budget released figure, broken down as:

  • An extra 32,500 skilled places, from 109,900 up to 142,400.
  • An extra 2,500 family visa places, from 50,000 up to 52,500.

In May 2022, the 2022-23 Australian Budget has released the planned visa grant numbers for the next financial year July 2022 to June 2023.

The total numbers of Visas in the planning numbers is the same as previous years, at 160,000, but with a change back to similar stream numbers as before the COVID-19 changes.

The major difference is the previously stated reallocation of grants between the Skill and Family visa streams.

The total for Skilled visas will be 109,900, an increase of 30,300 from the 79,600 last year.

The total for Family visas will be 50,000, a reduction of 27,300, from the 77,300 last year.

This change reallocates the Skill and Family visa stream numbers back to near the pre-Covid allocation numbers.

Partner Visa allocations in particular were:

  • 2019-20 was 39,799 places planned.
  • 2020-21 was 72,300 places planned.
  • 2021-22 was 72,300 places planned.
  • 2022-23 has 40,500 estimated places planned. This is back down to pre-Covid levels, as mentioned in 2020-21, with these changes being matched with increases in the skilled visa streams.

2019-20 Migration Program Outcomes.

The 2019-20 Australian Immigration program (1 July 2019 to 30 June 2020) was originally set with the total places available being capped at a ceiling of 160,000 for the year.  This was allocated between the following Visa Streams.
