What is the correct answer to the above question, that is asked on the Partner Visa application?
This question confuses some people due to another question on the same form, which asks: “Does the applicant have any parents, siblings or children including those that are deceased.”
Some people feel that these questions both refer to the same people, and they wonder why it is doubled up.
The confusion lies in the term of “Family Unit”. In some countries, the family unit might comprise Parents, Uncles etc., as well as children.
In Australia, the family unit appears to just consider the children of the couple, not normally parents or siblings. Although some other ‘dependants’ might be included.
In the Question asked on this page: “Does the applicant have any members of their family unit not traveling to Australia who are not Australian citizens or Australian permanent residents?“, this would refer to any children of the applicant, even if they are NOT being included on the Visa Application.
In the other question: “Does the applicant have any parents, siblings or children including those that are deceased”, this refers specifically to parents, siblings and children.
