Where are you going to go?  India?

QLD premier says “Where are you going to go?  India?”

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is in trouble for mentioning India, when asked about international travel by a reporter on Friday.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk replied back at reporters with these sentences:
Well, where are you going to go? Are you going to go to India?”

In Tokyo, you have to sit in Perspex screens with masks on, and if you remove your mask you can’t talk while you’re eating.

Yes, in Europe some people are travelling.”

I think the federal government needs to identify very clearly what are the countries that Australians can travel to.”

Some people have asked why the Premier singled out only India.

I think the media stories on this might be making a mountain out of a molehill.

From the above statements, she mentioned India, Japan and Europe.

Why include India ? Possibly because other than English and New Zealand born, the Indian born population of Queensland is the next largest group.

It stands to reason that many of them might actually want to return to their home country. We often hear stories of immigrants missing their families and wanting to travel home frequently.

Answering a reporter quickly, maybe she just thought of that larger population group.

There are 5 times as many Indian born in Queensland than there are Japanese born.

Any Japanese wondering why she mentioned Tokyo?

Europe is logical, as many Queenslanders have European connections too.
