Assault : Crime in Australia

Crime rates in Australia
.

The Northern Territory has the highest rate of Assaults recorded in all the Australian States, with a rate of 2,394 per 100,000 population compared to the safest State of Victoria with just 403 per 100,000 population.

However, as most people live in the State capitals, it may be better to look at the figures for those capitals.

Melbourne, for example, has a rate of 2,628 cases of assault per 100,000. That is more than 6 times the rate for the entire state of Victoria.
