Will Labor build 1.2 million new homes?
In the 2025 Australian federal election, the ALP made a promise to build 1.2 million homes over the following 5 years.
This has been a very controversial promise, with many saying it isn’t possible. These comments have now been confirmed by the Treasury Department.
A Treasury document, written after the last Election, advising the Labor government, has been accidentally sent to the ABC.
The ABC has revealed that this document warns that the government’s Election promise “to build 1.2 million homes over five years“, to address the housing crisis, “will not be met”.
The Treasury, after realising the error to send it, has asked the ABC to delete the document. However, the ABC decided to publish it, as it is in the public interest.
