  1. If you feel like sending $5 to buy me a cup of coffee, please click the donate button.

  2. Not Australian pork. Contains less than 10% Aust ingredients which part of the bacon is that. Avoid it. Poor quality.

    1. The 10% is probably the brine or salt or whatever they add to preserve it, plus the packaging.

      Imported Bacon

About 70% of all bacon sold in all Australian supermarkets is made using imported pork.

One reason is that it is cheaper than Australian pork, and many people buy on price.
But another reason appears to be lack of Australian pork to fill demand.

The quantity of imported pork is enormous, over 3.3 million kilos every week.

Australian Pork Limited CEO Margo Andrae said “All fresh pork in Australia is home-grown and consumers could rest easy when buying products like roasts, chops or loin cuts“.

She also said that only 10% of Australian pork was exported.

It’s the frozen pork that seems to be imported, with about 80% of these importeds from USA, Denmark and Netherlands.

Look for the “pink Australian Pork logo”, if you want to buy Australian, which most of us would prefer.

In 2015, Aldi became the first major Australian supermarket to use the pink Australian pork logo on their private label ‘BERG’ Christmas hams, leading the way for other supermarkets to follow.
