AstraZeneca for all over 18s

AstraZeneca for 18 year olds and over.

The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) has issued new advice for COVID-19 immunisation for all Adults over 18 in Sydney.

All individuals aged 18 years and above in greater Sydney, including adults under 60 years of age, should strongly consider getting vaccinated with any available vaccine including COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca.

This is on the basis of the increasing risk of COVID-19 and ongoing constraints of Comirnaty (Pfizer) supplies.

In addition, people in areas where outbreaks are occurring can receive the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine 4 to 8 weeks after the first dose, rather than the usual 12 weeks, to bring forward optimal protection.

Out of the 139 COVID-19 patients in  Sydney hospitals, 37 are in Intensive Care Units (ICU).

36 of those in ICU were not vaccinated, the other one had only had the 1st dose.

None that were fully vaccinated are in ICU.

The vaccine appears to reduce severe issues with COVID-19 infections.

Some COVID-19 cases may not even have any symptoms,  especially if vaccinated.
