With the Australian Average Internet Speed being quoted at 8.2Mbps in the recent the Akamai report, we did a comparison with reports specifically for Australian locations to see how much these figures vary.
It is logical, with Australia being such a vast country, that speeds will vary depending a lot on location.
Even the main capital Cities will have areas that are much higher or lower than their own average.
Average download speeds for each Capital City are currently:
39.7 Mbps Canberra
13.4 Mbps Sydney, but one Sydney suburb (Dulwich Hill) gets 60.6 Mbps average.
10.1 Mbps Melbourne, but one Melbourne suburb (Hawthorn) gets 48.8 Mbps average.
9.3 Mbps Brisbane
8.1 Mbps Adelaide
7.1 Mbps Perth, but one Perth suburb (Kardinya) gets 66.4 Mbps average.
My own location shows an average of 1.5 Mbps, but I get 5.3 Mbps. But then, I am in Regional Queensland, not in a main City.
