Discounts for Aged in Australia.

Changes to Commonwealth Seniors Health Card (CSHC).

November 2022

CSHC income test limits have now been increased to $90,000 for a single person (up from $61,284) and $144,000 for couples (up from $98,054), but you still must meet residency requirements and be of Age Pension age.

This change to the CSHC card eligibility, is expected to result in an extra 44,000 retirees (with incomes between $1,178 and $1,730 per week)  gaining access to welfare concessions such as:

  • Cheaper PBS prescription medicines at the concession rate of $6.80 each.
  • Free prescriptions once you reach the PBS Safety Net limit of $244.80 (36 standard prescriptions) for concession card holders and $1,457.10 for general patients in a calendar year.
  • Discounts on:
    • Electricity Bills.
    • Gas bills.
    • Property Rates.
    • Water Rates.
    • Dental Treatment.
    • Eye Care.
    • Public Transport Fares.

These changes allow those retirees with income of up to $1,730 per week, to gain the same benefits as those that are eligible for the Aged pension of $513.25 per week.
