Petition EN2427 – Raise the National Minimum Wage to $20/hr.
This petition includes the following wordings:
The Fair Work Ombudsman specifies that as of 1 July 2020 the National Minimum Wage is $19.84 per hour.
We are petitioning for it to be raised to $20 per hour. This would be a difference of only $0.16 per hour.
We ask that this is put into effect within two years of its approval.
Under normal annual increases, the National Minimum Wage will exceed $20 per hour, before this petition requires it.
The July 2019 rate was $19.49 per hour, an increase of $0.35 per hour.
That same increase would make the National Minimum Wage $20.19 per hour by July 2021, two years before this petition wants it to be $20.00.
