Partner Visa Sponsor Police Checks.
From 18 November 2016 it became a requirement for the Sponsor of Partner Visas and Prospective Marriage Visas, to supply police checks on themselves. This is in addition to the Applicants police checks.
To show that you meet the additional sponsor requirements, you need to provide an Australian police certificate.
This can be obtained at: www.afp.gov.au/what-we-do/national-police-checks
For applications after November 2016 you may also need to provide an overseas police certificate from every country where you spent a combined total of 12 months or more in the last 10 years since you turned 16.
From 18 November 2016, sponsors of Partner and Prospective Marriage visa applications will need to:
• provide Australian and/or foreign police checks when requested.
• consent to us disclosing their convictions for relevant offences to the visa applicant(s).
How long are the police clearances valid for?
The Australian Immigration Department state that Police clearances as valid for 12 months, even if the police clearance itself says it is valid for less.
The immigration department may extend the clearance validity period from up to 15 months, if the visa is close to being granted or if delays in processing the visa application were caused by the department.
