These figures, taken from ABS statistics, released 17th March 2010, show the State comparisons of “Acts of Crime intended to cause injury” for the 2008-2009 year, together with the change from the 2007-08 year.

  1. NT – 1,162.7 per 100,000 population Up 3.10% from last year
  2. TAS – 529.9 per 100,000 population Down -5.22% from last year
  3. WA – 515.5 per 100,000 population Up 1.72% from last year
  4. NSW – 463.4 per 100,000 population Up 7.37% from last year
  5. SA – 455.3 per 100,000 population Up 7.18% from last year
  6. ACT – 282.4 per 100,000 population Up 6.61% from last year
  7. QLD – 262.3 per 100,000 population Down -0.27% from last year
  8. VIC – 250.8 per 100,000 population Up 0.44% from last year

Following the recent news stories of crime in Melbourne, Victoria, the above figures showing Victoria with the lowest rate for the particular offence of “Crime intended to cause injury” does seem a bit inexplicable.

Maybe, a comparison between each City would show a different result ?
