Prescription Costs in 2024.

Medicare Prescription Charges have a maximum price that can be charged to Medicare Card holders.  These are the subsidised prices so that most people pay less than the actual cost of the medicine.

People with a concession card, health care card or other concession card, pay a much lower price than the normal subsidised prices.

Medicare Prescription cost effective from 1 January 2024.

The maximum cost for most Prescription items has risen to $31.60, from the $30 in 2023. An increase of $1.60 or 5.3%

Concession card holders face an increased maximum cost of $7.70, from the $7.30 in 2023. An increase of $0.40 or 5.5%

Some Pharmacies give a $1 discount, so the cost for a concession card holder might be $6.70 at these pharmacies.

    • In January 2024, I paid $6.70 for a prescription.
    • In 2023, I paid $6.30 for most prescriptions.
    • In 2022, I paid $6.60 for most prescriptions.
    • In 2021, I paid $6.60 for most prescriptions.
    • In March 2020, I paid $5.60 for a prescription.
    • In 2019, I paid $5.50 for my prescriptions.
    • In 2018, I paid $5.40 for my prescriptions.
