Some parts of the Eastern coast of Australia woke up to red dust clouds on the morning of 23rd September 2009, with Sydney getting the worst of it.
By midday, Brisbane was also turning orange, and you can taste the dust in your mouth, and feel it hitting your eyes, even with glasses on.
This is a photo from my front door showing what is probably the worst of the day, for our specific area.
From what I heard from others in Brisbane, they did get it a lot worse than us, maybe being on the Bayside kept the majority away from us ?
I did close all the windows and outside blinds to try to minimise the dust getting into the house though.
24 hours later, and here is a comparison of the original photo, and again using the same camera, same settings and same position to show the real difference.
This comparison really showed me just how different it was. At the time I didn’t think it was really that bad, as it had been a gradual change, but this “during and after” photo really highlights the difference.
