Some examples of Flight costs from JFK airport, United States, to Sydney in Australia.
News article headlines have shown various extreme prices, with two recent ones being “Flights from New York to Sydney have been listed for as much as $70,000” and “Dubai to Sydney one way for $23,000″.
With recent arrival restrictions into Australia, and various headlines about Flight prices into Australia, I have looked up prices between the US and Australia, with prices from May though to September.
The future dated prices may of course change, depending on many factors.
Here are some examples:
July 2021 Flights JFK to SYD
August 2021 Flights JFK to SYD
September 2021 Flights JFK to SYD
JFK to SYD Range of prices from May 2021
Why are Flight Prices so high into Australia now?
Before COVID travel restrictions were brought in by Australia, the average flight into the country (not just from USA) had about 200 passengers.
The cost of that flight could be split between 200 tickets.
After COVID travel restrictions were brought in by Australia, the average flight into the country (not just from USA) had about 20 passengers. (In April 2020 it was 13)
The cost of that flight needs to be split between 20 tickets.
Logic says that the ticket price would need to be nearer 10 times the earlier amount, to cover costs and a similar profit.
How many Flights are there?
In April 2020 there were 1,243 inbound flights (not just from USA), with 16,211 passengers. An average of 13 passengers per flight.
In April 2019 there were 8,399 inbound flights (not just from USA), with 1,701,819 passengers. An average of 202 passengers per flight.
