The proportion of people aged 18 years and over who had experienced physical or threatened violence in the last 12 months declined from 10% in 2010 to 8% in 2014
People were more likely to feel safe or very safe walking alone in their local area after dark (53% in 2014 compared with 48% in 2010)
People were more likely to feel safe or very safe at home alone after dark (89% in 2014 compared with 85% in 2010). Both males and females felt more confident about their safety
Data showed that on average, Australians aged 15 years and over rated their overall life satisfaction as 7.6, putting Australia higher than it was in 2012 and higher than the OECD average.
Average life satisfaction was highest for people aged 75 years and over (8.1)
Recent migrants were slightly happier than the average (7.7).
Households with people who were unemployed were below average (6.8)
One parent families with children were had the lowest levels of overall life satisfaction (between 0 and 4)
