The answer is that “it depends”.
An example today was $8.99 per kilo for a whole rump weighing 6.58kg.
The cost was $59.15.
Once the 2.35kg of fat was cut off, the remaining meat weighed 4.23kg.
This made the $59.15 cost of 4.23kg of meat coming out at $14 per kg.
So, if you feel that $14 per kg of lean rump is good value, and you are happy buying and trimming 4.23 kilos, then it was a good purchase.
The best price in the main two supermarkets today was $20 per kilo, in a 1kg pack.
