School Fees on 457 Visa

The 457 visa is classed as a temporary visa, it must be noted that it is a Temporary “Resident” Visa, and not a Temporary “Visitor” Visa.

Some Australian States allow the children of Temporary “Resident” Visa holders to access Government School facilities under the same conditions as Citizens and Residents.

However, it must be noted that the ACT, New South Wales and Western Australian do NOT allow this exemption from Fees.

The following fees were quoted in 2008.

  • NSW charges between $4,500 and $5,500 per child for education whilst on a 457 Visa.
  • ACT charges between $9,500 and $13,500 per child for education whilst on a 457 Visa.
  • QLD treats 457 Visa Holders the same as Citizens and Residents.
  • (2013) WA is removing the exemption from school fees for non residents (457 Visa Holders) and will be charging for Education from January 2014. The first child will be $4,000 per year, and then $2,000 per year for additional children. http://www.britzinoz.com/school-fees-in-western-australia-2014-15

  • SA treats 457 Visa Holders the same as Citizens and Residents.
  • Tasmania treats 457 Visa Holders the same as Citizens and Residents.
