How long will Australia keep borders open to some overseas arrivals?

The Queensland government has said that travel to Australia should be ‘dramatically’ cut due to COVID.

The Queensland Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, is quoted as saying: “We need a massive reduction in overseas arrivals because the overseas arrivals are bringing in these contagious strains.”

She will be asking the Prime Minister to place a harsher cap on the number of international arrivals.

The Deputy Premier Steven Miles said that the COVID outbreaks can be traced back to international arrivals, but our international borders are supposed to be closed. We have to cut the number of travellers arriving until we have our community vaccinated ..

  2. Both Daniel Andrews (Premier for Victoria) and Annastacia Palaszczuk (Premier for Queensland) have called for a reduction of people being allowed to return to Australia until more people are fully vaccinated.

The Victorian Premier mentioned “halving or reducing by 75 per cent or 80 per cent the number of people coming back through hotel quarantine”.
