Quarter of a Million Dollar Water Bill.
In the news on 1st April 2011, it has been reported that Gold Coast residents, Steven and Faith Nash have received a $ 250,786.60 water bill from Allconnex water, covering the six month period from June 6, 2010 to December 12, 2010.
An April Fools Joke ? That was my first thought, and probably many others thought the same, but… The Bill is dated 28th March 2011.
One report states that the bill was for 96,000 kl of water. That’s about 526,000 litres (526kl) per day.
To put this into perspective, I needed to see how much we use. I compared my bills.
We use about 500 litres per day… note how close that is to 1,000 times less than their usage…
It looks like a simple error… they probably use 526 litres per day, but it got keyed in as kl instead of l, and therefore multiplied by 1,000.
At a guess, their revised bill will be more like $250. It would be interesting to see the final outcome.
