Some people who are applying for Australian Citizenship may be eligible for what is called the “Assisted Citizenship Test” in some circumstances.
Most people will take the normal test, the standard computer test which requires a certain number of correct answers.
At least 75 per cent of all questions must be correct, together with all five questions on Australian values being correct, to pass the test.
However, there are some people without computer skills or with learning difficulties.
These may be eligible for computer guidance from a staff member or an Assisted test.
An Assisted Test may be available if you have:
- asked for it in your application.
- completed at least 400 hours of English language tuition under the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP).
- been assessed by the AMEP provider as not having the reading skills needed to take the test without help.
People are given 90 minutes to complete the assisted test.
It is important to understand that one of the primary reasons for this Citizenship test is to show that you have:
- a basic knowledge of the English language.
- an understanding of what it means to become an Australian citizen.
