JOE Hockey wants the banks, the government and the rest of us to forge a “social compact” on interest rates, Mr Hockey has urged Mr Swan to do more to stand up for customers battling cost of living pressures. He has suggested Parliament could get involved to keep the banks in line, but Treasurer Wayne Swan has labelled it an “absurd, lunatic fringe” idea.
