Immigration Numbers may be cut by 30,000 in 2019.
The Australian federal government is considering cutting the official migration rate, from about 190,000 down to about 160,000 per year.
The current proposals also include increasing the proportion of higher skilled migrants, and cutting down on those with lower skills.
It has been proposed that only the ‘best and the brightest’ would be accepted.
The 2017/18 Permanent Visa grants actually issued was only 162,417.
However, the budget for that year was still 190,000, so any change to budget figures may not actually affect the actual numbers getting a visa grant.
