Australian Student Visa Grant Rates 2018.
Student Visa Application and Grant numbers.
For the first 6 months of the 2018-19 program year to 31 December 2018, there were:
220,753 student visa applications lodged.
185,447 student visas granted.
The lowest Grant Rate was for the ‘Vocational Education and Training Sector’, applied for outside Australia, with a grant rate of only 62.4%.
Student Visa Refusal Rates.
To calculate approximate refusal rates, take the grant rate away from 100, and the difference will be those that were not granted, many of which may well be refusals.
For example, with a grant rate of 71.5% for Student Visas lodged outside Australia, by nationality of India, the figure for those not granted would be 28.5%. (ie: 100-71.5). Many of those would be refusals or withdrawals.

The overall grant rate for student visas was 89.5 per cent. (10.5% not granted)
The grant rate for student visa applicants, outside Australia, was 86.8 per cent. (13.2% not granted)
The grant rate for student visa applicants, in Australia, was 94.4 per cent. (5.6% not granted)
