It is possible to apply for priority processing for an Australian passport.
Paying an extra $225 for this option, your passport should be ready for mailing or collection within two business days of the passport office receiving all required documents.
I did this about 10 years ago and it was ready for collection 2 hours after I lodged the application in person at a Passport office.
