Population of Queensland 2009

The population of Queensland has been growing by an average of 2,167 new residents each week, for the 12 months ended 31st March 2009, with a population of about 4,380,400 at that date.

The growth has been attributed to:

  • 46.7% overseas migration
  • 35.6% natural increase
  • 17.7% interstate migration

The Queensland population clock reached the interesting figure of 4,444,444 at about 4.45am 4:44 am on Tuesday 20th October 2009.

The difference between 4:44am and 4:39pm is 715 minutes, or 42,900 seconds.
The clock website states a total population increase of one person every 4 minutes and 33 seconds.
Therefore 157 people in those 715 minutes, take 715 away from the 4,444,601, and you have the 4,444,444 at 4:44am on 20th October 2009.
